Lydia Chagoll. Filmmaker - Author.
Born 1931 at Voorburg, Netherlands
Middle-class background, father a journalist.

From age 11, imprisoned for more than 3 years in Japanese camps in what is now Indonesia.
Certificate in Literary Studies in the Germanic Languages, Brussels Free University.
Diploma, Ecole Supérieure d'Etudes Chorégraphiques (ESEC) - Paris.
Studied classical dance, modern dance, Spanish dance, courtly dance, folkdance and Indonesian Dance in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany and the USA.
Ballerina and choreographer from 1948 to 1973. Teacher of classical dance.
Founded the "Ballet Lydia Chagoll" traveling company with specific programs for adults, adolescents and children.
Author. From 1960.
Many books and articles on dance, child abuse and the Second World War.
Publication of short stories and several collections of poems.
Active as a filmmaker from 1973.
